Camp out this weekend

Hello everyone, Here is the information for the canoe/camping trip this coming Saturday and Sunday (May 4 and 5).
We will canoe the Little Tallahatchie River to Hurricane Landing on Sardis Lake where we will camp. It will be a fun and full day of canoeing.
We will meet on Saturday morning at 9am at the southwest side of the Veterans Memorial Bridge in Abbeville. It’s about 20 minutes from Oxford on Route 7. As you approach the bridge, look to your left and there is a parking lot where we will meet. Here is a link with the general area, though the kayak access point is actually on the southwest side, not in the middle of the bridge as it shows:

Bring your own lunch, drinks, and snacks for the canoe trip packed in a gallon ziploc bag with your name on it. Wear a bathing suit and water shoes, shirt, and bring a hat, sunscreen, bug spray, and sunglasses. If you have a dry bag, please bring it. Also bring a sleeping bag, sleeping pad, mess kit, and change of clothes and shoes for after the canoeing and for Sunday (this stuff will not be going on the canoe, we will be transporting it by car to the campsite so please pack it in a separate bag). We will use troop tents and not be hammock camping. There is a chance of rain for Saturday night so a rain coat might be a good idea.
We will provide the canoes, paddles, and life jackets as well as food and drinks for dinner on Saturday night and breakfast on Sunday morning.
Pickup will be at the Hurricane Landing campground (sites 17 and 18) Sunday morning at 10am.

Upcoming events

Hello all, I Just wanted to let y’all know of what we have coming up and give you some information on Rank Advancements. Please help the scouts by reminding them they need their BSA Handbook at every meeting and campout. The Scouts need to have what they are doing signed off on in their books by their patrol leaders. The Patrol leaders have lots to do, so the Scouts themselves will need to go to their patrol leaders to show them the skill and ask them to sign off in their books. This helps us keep accurate records and keeps us from getting to the end of the semester and wondering why they have not advanced in rank. Also, the campouts, while they are geared toward some scouting activity, are where they show their scouting skills to their patrol leaders. So they still need to come to Campouts, this includes the higher ranked scouts because this is where they do most of their teaching skills.
Environmental Sci MB will continue on Mondays before regular meetings from 5:45pm to 6:45pm. April 20th Jackson Copelin’s Eagle Project starting at 8AM and going until 2PM at wall Doxey State park in . It is a conservation project and scouts will get conservation hours for this. April 28th Austin Hughes Eagle Project. More details to follow April 29th are Order of the Arrow elections and regular elections. We will also be doing Board of Reviews that night as well. May 4th, 5th Canoe camping trip on the Little Tallahatchie River. We need to do a swim check for everyone before this, but we are still working the details out for this. For those going on the canoe trip they have to have a swim check before they can go on the trip. This swim check will also count for Summer Camp. May 6th Yearly BSA physicals, and Board of Reviews for rank advancement. If you did not send us your forms A and B we will need those to do the physicals. May 13th Court of Honor for the Spring Semester. Everything will need to be turned in for the court of honor by the 6th of May so we can get everything ordered. In June and July we are planning to have some activities/MB classes. The MB classes will be one day and most likely on a Saturday. More details to come. If you have any Questions please feel free to contact me or one of the Assistant Scoutmasters.
