Campout canceled

Hello everyone, I hate to do this but we need to cancel this weekends campout. The weather reports have high probabilities of thunderstorms, high winds and tornado activity. They are also calling for extremely high levels of flooding. Please be safe and if you need anything reach out and the leaders can get together and we will come help to the best of our abilities. We are meeting Monday, class A uniform, plc at 6:30, meeting starts at 6:45. Be safe Benjamin Stepp Scoutmaster

Campout this weekend.

Hello everyone, Just a little update about the weekend campout for those that signed up last night. The cost again is 15$, it will be saturday and pickup on sunday. You can pay the cost through the troop venmo account. Also, it is that time of year where we have to be very weather conscious and we are tracking the weather for the weekend. As of right now Matt Laubhan is saying there is a 15-29% chance of severe weather for Saturday. and an 80$ chance of rain and thunderstorms. We will continue to monitor the weather and make a decision on the campout as we get closer to the weekend. When it comes to weather, it’s “in Matt we Trust.”
Thanks Ben Stepp Scoutmaster

Fwd: Northern tier training day March 29

Northern Tier parents and participants,
We are home stretch for Northern Tier and we have a lot of stuff to do. We have a Training day scheduled for Saturday, March 29 at Camp Yocona from 1pm to 5pm. We will having a “heavy hike” to simulate portages we will take while on our trip. We will also practice our “wet foot” Canoe entry and exits that we will be required to do at Northern Tier. We will also work on our canoe lifting and carrying. It is imperative that all participants do their best to make Northern Tier events from now until our trip. Please have all participants come dressed appropriately to Hike and possibly get wet. Please wear the Northern Tier approved Hiking boots if you have them. If you have not purchased them yet, please do so, so they can be broken in before our trip. Make sure to bring a second pair of shoes and socks as the first may get wet. All Scouts need to have a complete physical for every scout as soon as possible. Please schedule this with your Physician as soon as possible as we will need to upload these to Northern Tier soon. Please remember that we have a shakedown Canoe trip on the weekend of May 16-18. This will be a full dry run for our trip. All gear needs to be in hand for this trip. We also have 2 fundraising opportunities remaining this year. We have Parking for Double Decker, April 26th and Graduation, May 10. Please plan to make 1 of these events. More info on a future email. I look forward to seeing everyone on Saturday. Thank you, Jamie

Summer Camp at Yocona

Hello everyone, Troop 45 will be attending summer camp at Camp Yocona from June 8th -June 14th. The Cost is 300$ as long as we pay a 50$ deposit per scout by March 31st. After that the cost is 325$ if we register before April 1st then 400$ after that. If you plan on attending please respond by March 28th, and either venmo your deposit or bring cash or check or CC to one of the meetings before then. We will be signing up as a troop and not individually. I am attaching a portion of the Leaders Guide that includes the daily camp schedule, the merit badges with fees and how many time blocks they take up, and the Merit Badge descriptions. For new scouts who have not attended Summer Camp, you will be enrolled in the POLARIS program which consists of working on rank requirements from scout rank through 1st class as well as the first aid and swimming merit badges. How to read the attachments For everyone else not doing Polaris; the camp schedule (1st page) shows the time break down for all the different merit badge blocks. The next two pages of the attachment titled Merit badges. At the top of the 1st of these two pages you will see 1-5 and below them a corresponding starting time for that merit badge. On the left of the page is the Merit Badge name, then anything you need to know about it such as extra fees, pre-reqs, and items needed for the MB. Then under the times and blocks you will have a number that correlates to the MB on the left. Here you will see a 1, 2 3 or 5, this just tells you how many time blocks the Course takes up. For example, on page one you will see Cope/Climbing you must be at least 14 and it has an additional 25$ fee then it also takes up 5 time blocks each day. So that tells us if we sign up for cope and climbing, that’s the only thing you will be taking that week. The last page of the attachment is the class schedule. This tells you everything you need to know about each Merit badge, Which time it is taught, how many blocks it takes up, who can take it, age minimum, extra fees and how many people they let in the class. We do not need the class schedule for summer camp just yet, we just want the scouts to be thinking about what they want to take so when it is time we can get that done. Right now we just need to know who is attending and have their 50$ deposit. So please respond to this email IF you are planning on attending. If you are not planning on attending then don’t respond. Lasty the scouts will be staying in tents during summer camp not cabins.
Ben Stepp Scoutmaster.
