Thank you, Scouts and Parents, for an excellent first meeting on the Environmental Science merit badge this week. The Scouts were very engaged and contributed to a very robust conversation!

Below are two important notices as we continue the work of completing the badge:

– Merit Badge Homework- – *#1 Photograph an area affected by erosion*. Share your photographs with your counselor and discuss why the area has eroded and what might be done to help alleviate the erosion. – With all of the recent rain, we are encouraging the Scouts to look for local impacts of erosion, why they may have occurred in that particular location (no grass/tree cover, heavy rain etc,) and what could be done to improve this site for the future. – For those Scouts with phones/tablets, they can take a picture and bring it to class or if not, you can take their picture and just email me at (ncrouch@enterramedical.com) or text (601-934-5628) and we will discuss as a group on Monday

– *#2 Do research on one endangered species found in your state.* Find out what its natural habitat is, why it is endangered, what is being done to preserve it, and how many individual organisms are left in the wild. Prepare a 100-word report about the organism, including a drawing. Present your report to your patrol or troop. – We discussed some of the many species that have gone extinct in the U.S. and MS (Passenger Pigeons, American Chesnutt Trees etc.) and why that occurred. – One requirement for the badge is for Scouts to conduct independent research on an endangered species in MS and report out a 100 word report on their findings. Your Scout can do this at Monday’s meeting or a future one in April if the time is too short this week.

– Monday, April 15th *5:45 Start time* – We will be starting next week’s meeting at 5:45 in the Scout area/basement at the church. – If you missed week 1, that’s ok, please feel free to attend next week and we will find a makeup time later to cover the missed content.

Hello All,
We will be meeting at the parking lot at camp Yocona at 8:00 am on Saturday April 13th, 2024. This will give us enough time to get their gear to the campsite and to shooting sports for registration. We will be staying at Boyce campsite on Camp. Scouts will need to be fed breakfast before they get there. All the scouts need this weekend is a sleeping bag, clothes (weather appropriate), sunscreen, a hat with a bill on it, and a great attitude. Scouts sleeping in the cabins will not get nights under the stars counted as camping nights for them, if they want they can bring their own tent or hammock and sleep there and then they will have nights counted towards their camping. Lunch Saturday will be hamburgers, chips and drinks. We will have pizza Saturday night and a cold breakfast Sunday Morning. Pick up will be around 1 pm Sunday as we will need to get everyone through the shotgun qualification for the merit badge.

If your scout needs a ride out to camp, reply to this email and we will arrange the ride. Mr. Paul has graciously offered his Van and driving services.
