Dear Troop 45 Parents:
*February 11th is Scout Sunday.* This is a time to recognize Scouting’s Anniversary Day (Feb 8) and to celebrate the contributions of young people and adults to Scouting. *We invite your Scout to join Troop 45 as it attends the 11:00am worship service at First Presbyterian Church. *
First Pres is Troop 45’s Chartered Organization, our partner in Scouting. It provides physical space and other resources necessary for the well-being of our Troop. Troop 45 hopes to use Scout Sunday as a way to visibly say thank you to the congregation of First Pres.
Here’s the nitty-gritty:
– *Scouts are encouraged to attend, but this is not a mandatory event.* We realize this may disrupt a family’s normal Sabbath observances. Still, we would like for as many Scouts as possible to attend so we can offer a genuine “thank you” to the First Pres congregation. – *Scouts will meet at 10:30* outside in the courtyard and then we’ll all enter and sit together. – *Scouts will stay until 1:30 *to serve and to clean up a light meal for the congregation in the Fellowship Hall and each Scout will earn *two service hours*. – Scouts should wear their Class A uniform, with kerchief and green trousers, if they have them. – Some Scouts may be asked to help with the worship service by handing out bulletins or ushering. – Parents and families of our Scouts are welcomed to attend the service and stay for the meal afterwards. – Please talk this over with your Scout so we may get a *head count by this Monday’s meeting on Feb 5th*.
Scout Sunday is an opportunity for Scouts to publicly demonstrate the 12th point of the Scout Law: A Scout is Reverent. BSA recognizes a religious element in the training of Scouts, but it is *absolutely nonsectarian in its attitude toward that religious training. *
If you have any questions, please contact us.
Yours in Scouting,
Jason Bouldin
